Giving Back - NTRC

Posted 6 months ago on Sunday, June 21st, 2015

NTRC – not only a successful season on the pitch but a great job helping out your community – well done boys. This from Brian Leverenz at the New Trier Food Pantry.

"Please thank the boys for volunteering for the food drive. We really appreciate their efforts and all their help. In addition to the food, I counted up all the money and it’s just over $950! We’ve never raised that much money before at a food drive."

Successful 2015 Season for NTRC

Posted 6 months ago on Sunday, June 21st, 2015

It was an incredible ride this year for all our teams in the Club. The Tier 1 teams competed in the most competitive Conference this year and both teams made it to the State Final. Tier 1 A beat Arlington in the semi-final game to keep their winning streak alive at 8 games. This put them in the final game for the State Championship against Morton. After beating Morton twice in two close matches we lost in the final seconds of the Final game. This was a bit of history repeating itself as something eerily similar happened four years earlier to Morton. Tier 1 B also lost to Morton in the State Final bringing both teams to Runner Ups in the State. Quite an accomplishment and one of the best seasons the Club has had. And hats off to Morton for a great season and the great competition. Our Frosh/Soph team enjoyed many games and the improvement from the beginning of the season to the end was remarkable to the player. 7′s Season has started and we continue to practice Tuesday and Thursday’s from 6-7:00. Until next year!

2016 Season – one for the Ages

The 2016 rugby season couldn’t have been scripted any better. The winter training sessions brought out a large contingent of new players as we practiced in the state of the art Athletico Indoor facility. We worked hard getting ready for our tour to Ireland in March. Over a week we played three days of games and won our final tournament in Skibereen. Coming home we started our season against Arlington and Morton and were defeated by a close margin in both games. This put our backs against a wall as we had to win out the remainder of our games to make the Playoffs. We won the next three and were faced playing Nequa in our final match of the regular season. Nequa came into the match undefeated. It was an extremely exciting game and New Trier came out on top handing Nequa their first defeat of the season. Heading into the playoffs we beat St. Rita to then playoff with Mount Carmel. One of the top teams in the State, Mount Carmel fought hard. After New Trier went up early, the second half was a tight one as Mt Carmel marched back. Time finally ran out with New Trier winning and heading to the State Final. Once again facing off against Nequa. This was our goal all season to get back to the State Finals after losing last year in the final minutes of the game. Nequa was determined to fix the blemish of their only loss all season to New Trier. An incredible tight back and forth game New Trier turned the table on last year by making a stand in the final seconds to win the game. New Trier Rugby Club – 2016 Illinois State Champions! Proud of all the hard work the boys put in all season.
